The FIH and IMHA (International Masters Hockey Association) have now confirmed the next International Masters Hockey Association World Cup will be played in Terrassa, Spain from July 27 – August 5, 2018.
Terrassa, approximately 35 kilometres west of Barcelona, was the field hockey venue of the 1992 summer Olympics.
In April 2016, Canada sent its first women’s team (an Over 50s) to an IMHA World Cup. Since then, interest has grown and Field Hockey Canada is encouraged by the number of registrations on its Masters’ website.
It is hoped that two teams will travel to Spain in the summer of 2018. For more information on the IMHA and World Cups, see http://internationalmastershockey.org/.
Age categories at the World Cup are in five year increments starting at age 40.
With the World Cup only a little over a year away, it is necessary at this time to solicit a strong expression of interest from registrants so that FHC can move forward with organizing teams for the event.
The estimated cost of participating in the IMHA tournament is $2,000. This includes shared accommodation (2 people), uniform, turf costs and team gifts. The payment schedule is as follows:
Players will need to pay for their own airfare, transport to and from the airport to Terrassa, to and from the game venue plus their meals.
If you would like to be considered for a 2018 World Cup team, please complete the following by August 1, 2017.
You are receiving this newsletter because you have registered on FHC’s Masters’ website. Please feel free, however, to forward it to any player that you think may be interested. Please encourage them to register at: https://www.fieldhockey.ca/program/canadian-masters-hockey/
