Despite a strong performance from goalkeeper Azelia Liu, the Canadian women were defeated by number-two world ranked Argentina 4-0 in their second match of the 2009 Pan American Cup.
The game saw Liu and teammate Meggan Oliver earn their 50th international cap.
Argentina came out strong in the first half forcing Liu to make several saves. However Noel Barrionuevo managed to open the scoring in the 13th minute on a penalty stroke.
With the score 2-0 in the 29th minute Liu stopped the game from getting out of reach with a spectacular save from the ground on a direct Argentinean shot.
The only chance Canada had in the match was a penalty corner in the 56th minute which was stopped by goalkeeper Laura Aladro.
Canada now sits in second place in Pool A behind Argentina. They next play Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday afternoon.
