Cal Cup begins today in Los Angeles

The California Cup, also known admiringly as The Cal Cup, begins today at Moorpark College outside Los Angeles and features several competing Canadian teams.  The Cal Cup promotes itself as North America’s best field hockey tournament and will run until May 31st.

If you happen to be in the area come out to cheer on the Canadian teams!

Dirty Birds (Super Division – Men)
Vancouver Hawks (U16 Division – Men)
Ontario United (Super Division – Women)
Dirty Birdies (Super Division – Women)
Vancouver Strikers (Competitive Division – Women)
Chilliwack Pink Panthers (U19 Division – Women)
Quamichan Gators (U16 Division – Women)

 

The tournament was founded by Tom Harris in 1972. Thirty-seven years after it all started, the tournament has grown to include over 140 teams playing in thirteen divisions over 4 days. Competition is held for nearly two thousand athletes, young and old alike.
