Canada-India Tie 2-2

June 21, 2010

The Canadian women’s national team played the final match of a 4 game test series, at UBC on Father’s day against the Indian National team. This wrapped up a great weekend on the pitch. In the first half Team India got on the board by capitalizing on a penalty corner in the 11th minute. However, it didn’t take the Canadian’s long to respond. A penalty stroke was rewarded two minutes later and D. Roemer scored to tie the game at one.

In the second half India came out strong and went ahead after a free play goal at the 42nd minute mark.  Again, it didn’t take the Canadian’s long to respond.  7 minutes later they received their first penalty corner of the game and Di Roemer scored her second goal of the game on a drag flick.

"The girls really played well today and for the first time we competed for an entire 70 minutes.  We have learned many lessons and have adapted well.  Hopefully our upcoming series against Chile will solidify our overall team play" said Head Coach Louis Mendonca.

A big thank you goes out to all volunteers/staff that made this event possible. Also a big congratulation’s goes out to all athletes that participated in a well played series. For all information on the Canada-India Cup 2010, please click here.
