The senior men’s national field hockey team wrapped up their final stage of preparation for next month’s World Cup with a 2-1 victory over the United States Sunday morning in San Diego. It was the fourth Canadian victory in four games against the United States this series.
Canada’s Mark Pearson scored two goals during the first half.
While the match featured less tempo than Saturday’s game, Canada again dominated possession and controlled the majority of opportunities. However their failure to convert several of these opportunities kept the score line at 2-0 leading into the final minutes of the game.
The Americans took advantage of some loose play and earned three straight penalty corners. They were able to convert their first opportunity to cut the lead in half however Canada held the upper hand in the closing minutes to complete the four-game sweep.
Canada conceded only two goals throughout the entire series.
The men will now return home for a short period before they depart for the World Cup in New Delhi on February 21st. Canada’s first match is against New Zealand on March 1st.
