Canada defeats Ireland in final test match

The Canadian national women’s field hockey team defeated Team Ireland 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Dublin. It was the final of a three-match official test series between the two sides.
Abigail Raye (Kelowna, BC) scored the game-winner in what was her first international goal put the Canadians up 2-1 with twelve minutes remaining in the game. Cailie O’Hara (Oakville, ON) scored the other Canadian goal shortly after Ireland’s Skipper McKean opened the game’s scoring in the 27th minute.

Team Canada finishes the Irish test series with one win, one loss, and one draw. Canada also earned another draw and loss against the Irish reserve team earlier in the week. They return to Vancouver Monday evening.

Canada, ranked 20th in the world, was in Dublin preparing for their upcoming World Cup Qualifier, 1 – 14 February in Bermuda. Ireland is ranked 15th in the world by the International Hockey Federation.
