In the first game of the Women’s National field hockey team’s Ireland Series, Team Ireland A defeated Canada by a score of 2-0.
The Irish team came out strong owning much of the play in the first half. Their first goal was scored at the 4 minute mark on a penalty corner by Roisin Flinn.
Canadian goalkeeper Amanda Stone was called upon to make several saves, her best one coming in the 18th minute off of a penalty corner, where she dove to make a spectacular stick save.
Ireland got their second goal of the game in the 20th minute off of another penalty corner.
Canada played better in the second half and had more circle penetrations and shots on net, however, they were unable to beat the Irish goalie.
“It was great to get our first game under our belt and I’m excited for those that got their first match in for Canada. We now have a starting point and we will build from there”, said Canadian player Stephanie Nesbitt.
Canada will play their second game of the Series against Ireland A tomorrow.
