Canada uses extra time to beat Jamaicans

The Canadian women’s national field hockey team returned to winning form Friday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica. The women will next face Team Mexico on Sunday in the 5th place game of the 2009 Pan American Cup in Hamilton, Bermuda.
The first half saw Canada awarded with seven penalty corners but they were unable to convert.

Canada came out a much stronger and determined group in the second half generating eight penalty corners and a penalty stroke, but again could not score. In the 67th minute Cailie O’Hara had an excellent opportunity to score, however the Jamaican goalkeeper came out of nowhere to make an amazing save.

Overtime was needed to decide the game and again Canada had numerous opportunities, generating five penalty corners. Finally, in the 80th minute another penalty stroke was awarded, this time Vancouver’s Steph Jameson went up to the stroke mark, and made no mistake, slotting one past the Jamaican keeper.

Canadian goalkeeper Amanda Stone did not face one shot on net.
