Field Hockey Canada > Canadian athletes celebrate 2010 Winter Games sport legacy

Did you know that Field Hockey Canada’s national teams regularly train at the Richmond Olympic Oval?

The venue that once hosted long-track speed skating during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games is now a training centre for a wide variety of high performance athletes and teams – for both summer and winter sports.

Field Hockey Canada’s athletes make good use of the resistance and strength training facilities year-round at the Oval, and use the indoor courts for practice when the weather turns cold.

During a recent media tour to highlight the sport legacy of the venue, Kate Gillis and Natalie Sourisseau from Field Hockey Canada’s Women’s National Team participated in sport demos and taught representatives from the local and international media how to wield a field hockey stick.

Between sessions, Kate and Natalie had the opportunity to learn more about the other sports that train at the Oval – such as table tennis and wheelchair rugby – and the Richmond Olympic Experience museum, opening at the Oval in 2014.
