Canadian men defeat Russia in Test Match

June 22, 2009

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team defeated Russia 3-2 on Monday afternoon in Elektrostal, Russia.  The game was an official test match sanctioned by the International Hockey Federation.

Vancouver, British Columbia native Scott Tupper scored two goals to secure the victory.  Mark Pearson, also of Vancouver, netted the other goal for the winning side.

Canada has sent a relatively young squad to Russia to compete in a Four Nation tournament with Russia, South Africa, and Bangladesh as part of their ongoing preparations for the 2010 World Cup.

Canada is scheduled to play South Africa in another pre-tournament test match on Tuesday.  The tournament begins on Wednesday evening.
