Louis Mendonca Head coach of the National Women’s Team today announced Nancy (Charlton) Mollenhauer, a member of the 1984 and 1988 Olympic teams has been named as Honorary Captain of the Field Hockey for The Cure Game to be played September 13th 2009 at UBC Wright Field in support of the BC Cancer Foundation. The game will feature Team Canada in Pink playing against the UBC Tournament All Stars.
“I am very pleased to be named Honorary Captain for such an amazing game and great cause” said Mollenhauer. “I think it shows the leadership of this remarkable group of athletes”. Nancy was also the Canadian flag bearer at the 1987 Pan Am Games and was also a part of the organizing committee for the Olympic Qualifier in Victoria last year and still plays in Victoria.
“Having Nancy as our honorary Captain is a key link to our legacy and our history as a team” says current Captain Stephanie Nesbitt- Hume “we owe so much to those that have played before us and it will be great to see Nancy on our side again”
Nancy will be outfitted in the commemorative Pink coaches shirt designed for the game and the team will be wearing custom designed Pink Uniforms which feature the game logo on the chest and ribbon on the skirt. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
