Canada 0 – Chile 3
The women’s national team was hit with a devastating blow before their South American tour even started, when Jess Walkey went down in Sunday’s training session with an injury. She will be returning home shortly in order to undergo treatment.
"It was a tough loss for us today. I thought we played quite well,
however, we made a lot of mistakes in our 25, which cost us the game,"
said head coach Louis Mendonca.
Todays game was also a highlight for five girls who achieved their
first caps including forwards Robyn Pendleton (BC) and Michelle Weber
(ON), Midfielders Katie Collison (BC) and Krissy Wishart (ON), and
defender Samantha Smith (BC). A small ceremony was held post-game to
congratulate them as well as first time staff Neetu Rishiraj and Cregan
Joseph.
Canada had a good game against Chile, unfortunately the game score does
not reflect the competitiveness of our game. There was a 5 minute
period in the second half when the Chileans were successful at
pressuring our backfield and were able to capitalize, scoring on back
to back penalty corners.
