The University of Calgary Dinos field hockey team celebrated the Thanksgiving weekend in style Sunday, handing the UBC Thunderbirds just their second loss of the season – and the Dinos’ first win over UBC since 2000 – by a 2-1 score at Hawkings Field.
For the second day in a row these teams faced off in winter temperatures and blowing snow. Saturday afternoon, the Dinos’ lack of offence was their downfall as they dropped the first game of this series 4-1.
The Dinos opened the scoring at 25:05 after a sustained offensive effort resulted in a short corner. The initial shot on goal was taken by Courtney Campbell before Serena Lockhart tipped the ball upwards to avoid UBC’s diving goaltender, Dina Bulfone.
