Field Hockey Canada is currently seeking nominations of individuals who have had a profound impact in the sport of field hockey in Canada to be considered for inaugural induction into the Field Hockey Canada Hall of Fame this fall.
Nominations will be accepted in the three categories: athlete, builder, and pioneer.
Nominees in the Athlete’s category will have attained excellence on an international level. Builders will have brought honour to Field Hockey Canada through ongoing dedication to athletes, teams and the sport itself. And nominees in the Pioneer category will have made a substantial contribution to field hockey in Canada prior to 1960.
Yan Huckendubler of Quebec will chair the Hall of Fame Induction Selection Committee. Huckendubler’s has been involved with Field Hockey Canada, the International Hockey Federation and the Pan American Hockey Federation. His historical knowledge of field hockey in Canada will serve well in his role serve as the Chair.
“Many Canadians, men and women, have made their mark on the international field hockey scene, as players, coaches, umpires or administrators,” says Huckendubler. “Before the internet age, their achievements have too frequently been unheralded, often known only to a small circle of family, friends and club-mates.”
“The newly created Field Hockey Canada Hall of Fame will try to remedy this, putting the spotlight back on those who built the history of our sport in Canada.”
Field Hockey Canada will establish a virtual Hall of Fame as well as the induction events. The first event will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. The launch of the Field Hockey Canada Hall of Fame is made possible by support from the Canadian Olympic Committee.
