OTTAWA—At the request of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will attend the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, on October 29 and 30, 2011. On this occasion, he will support Canadian athletes by attending the finals and participating in the closing ceremony.
“I’m pleased to be visiting Mexico and what an honour it is to attend the Pan American Games, where I will have the opportunity to see our top Canadian athletes compete against the best athletes in the Americas,” said the Governor General. “Their determination and commitment inspire us to excellence and to live a healthy and active lifestyle. As Canada prepares to host the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, I thank everyone involved in making it happen, particularly all the volunteers whose dedicated work will contribute to the success of the Games.”
His Excellency will attend the men’s Field Hockey gold medal game as Canada takes on Argentina. He will also participate in the medal presentation ceremony at 7:10pm.
