Junior Men to compete in Guadalajara

May 18, 2012 | Field Hockey Canada | fieldhockey.ca

With the Junior Pan American Games just three months away, the Men’s Junior National Team (MJNT) is heading to Guadalajara, Mexico to continue their intensive training.  From June 14 – 17, Canada will compete against Mexico’s Junior National Team in a series of three matches.  The series will give the MJNT a chance to experience the pitch and venue they will see again in September at the Junior Pan Ams.  The team will be able to familiarize themselves with the logistical challenges they may face in Guadalajara.

The Junior Canadians have proven themselves a force to be reckoned with over the past few months.  In December, they had a successful series against the US, walking away with 3 victories, one draw and zero losses.  Canada dominated Chile, winning 7 straight matches in March.  When put to the test against Argentina, the MJNT competed with grit and determination – walking away with one win and one loss, both matches within one point. “We don’t want any surprises come September,” says MJNT Head Coach Mathias Ahrens.  “This tour is a vital part of our preparation, and I expect to see the players fighting to be selected onto this winning team.”
