It has been a long week of competition for the Women’s Junior National Team in Argentina. The young Canadians took on the power-house Leoncitas four times this week. Though hungry for a win, Canada was unable to make it happen this time. Caashia Karringten scored Canada’s lone goal of the series in the first match, while Argentina scored eight against the Junior Women.
“Overall, we are disappointed with the results this week and we should be scoring more,” says Head Coach Peter Milkovich. “It’s going to take some time to build our team over the course of the summer. But we’ll be ready in September.”
Canada will face the Leoncitas again in September at the 2012 Junior Pan American Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico. Team Chile will also be one of Canada’s opponents in Guadalajara. The Junior Women will see how they measure up in two matches against Chile tomorrow at 11:00am and Sunday at 9:30am.
“We don’t really know what to expect against Chile,” says Milkovich. “But we are looking to come out very strong tomorrow. We are going to continue to build on our possession game and the execution of our strategy.”
The Women’s Junior National Team will be focused on the execution of their strategy throughout the summer as they go on to face Mexico June 18 – 20 and strong European teams in July. As Milkovich said, they’ll be ready in September. Ready for the 2012 Junior Pan American Championships – and the opportunity to qualify for the 2013 Junior World Cup.
