Day 4:
‘Game” Day #2
Today we awoke with similar tensions toyesterday but with added confidence after our win. We ran the same routine of team jog and stretch followed bybreakfast.
After this, we had some rare free timewhere we could relax or take a nap; it was quite luxurious. One hour later we all got together todebrief yesterday’s game. Healthysubs from Subway were the choice for lunch before we packed up and headed tothe field ready for our match.
Once we got to the field, we did the samewarm up and pre-game preparation as yesterday to instil a routine for usall. At the end of the warm up wewere all rearing to go; filled with anxiety, excitement and confidence.
The game started off with high intensityand speed. We held pressure andpossession, with continued offensive attacks.
Within the first 5 minutes, we had an amazing break whichcaught the Americans off guard. Maddie Secco took advantage of a defender’s mistaken position and took aquick shot! The ball flew in offthe defender and past the goalie. We were up 1-0 and continued with relentless intensity. The Americans couldn’t catch a breakdue to our quick offensive pressure and superb defensive efforts. Our next break came off a shortcorner. Although it appeared theAmericans were about to counterattack us, a quick recovery and mad dangles byAnna Kozniuk followed by a quick pass to Priya Randhawa resulted in anothergoal for Canada! 2-0. We finishedthe half with the same drive and intensity and it ended with a 2-0 lead for Canada.
The second half was not as intense as thefirst, but we kept our composure throughout. Strong defensive efforts followed by powerful offensiveattacks allowed us to maintain our lead. We kept fighting until time ran out and the final score was 2-0 for Canada!
We had another thorough cool down followedby nutritious chocolate milk and homemade trail mix to help replenish ourbodies for tomorrow. Then wepacked up into our vans and headed back to the hotel for some ice baths anddinner. We had a casual dinner ofpasta and salad in our rooms and spent the rest of the night getting laundrytogether and just relaxing.
We have a break from games tomorrow andhave another practice day to work on different techniques and skills which willhelp us prepare for the final two games of the series.
Sincerely,
Lauren Logush #32,Amanda Woodcroft #3, Sara McManus #15, Anna Kozniuk #18.
