Men’s National Indoor Program to hold camp in Toronto

Field Hockey Canada will hold a national identification camp May 8th and 9th in Toronto for the Men’s Canada National Indoor Pan American Cup team.

This is an open identification camp open to all players that meet the eligibility criteria.  Details for the identification camp are provided below.  The purpose of the camp is to identify a squad of players that will train towards the goal of making the Canadian National Indoor Team that will participate in the Indoor World Cup Qualifier in Venezuela in August of this year.

This Canadian National Indoor Program is supported fully by Field Hockey Canada, its board and National Head Coach, Alan Brahmst.  The team is bound by the policy and the direction of the FHC Board and the National coach.    FHC is not able to fund this program.  The Indoor Program will fund itself.

 

Program Objective

The objective of this program is to put together a team of skilled athletes and management.  Develop the athletes into a cohesive unit that will play the game of indoor hockey at a highly competitive level with the goal of winning the Gold medal at the Indoor Pan American Cup, in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.

Eligibility

  • Member of FHC and your PSO
  • Male, must be at least 16 years old as of January 1, 2010
  • Must have excellent Indoor technical and game skills
  • Must commit to the program in terms of time and funds
  • Must centralize in Toronto when required
  • Canadian Citizen

Program Dates

Phase 1 – Indoor Pan American Cup

  • May 7 to 9 ID Camp
  • May 10-12 practices and video/game sessions
  • May 14-16 Test Matches against Australia
  • Practices will be schedule at least twice weekly in Toronto
  • Selection will be held the weekend June 12-13
  • Centralization for out of province players: May 10 to May 16, June 12-13, and July 24 to August 6
  • August 7/8 leave for Venezuela
  • August 15 return from Venezuela


Phase 2 – Indoor World Cup – Program Dates

  • To be determined after the Pan American Cup


Program Cost

Phase 1

  • All ID Camp participants will pay a camp fee $200.00
  • All athletes identified at the camp will be required to pay a Squad Fee of $300.00 on Sunday, May 9th, 2010.
  • All athletes named to the team will pay a final team levy (to be determined) on June 13th, 2010.  The final team levy may be reduced based on team’s fund raising efforts.
  • This breakdown of program cost is only for Phase 1
  • Note: Out of province players will be responsible for their own travel costs.  Once the out of province player has been selected to the team, the team will pick up the cost of the travel for the required periods of centralization.  All assistance will be provided for billeting these players.


Phase 2 breakdown will be provided after the Indoor Pan American Cup


Program Funding

Participating athletes will fund 100% of the program cost.  Fundraising activities will be done on individual and team level.  All athletes will be expected to participate fully.  All funds raised by team activities will be distributed equally among the athletes.


FHC’s “Adopt an Athlete” program with tax receipts will be available for athletes named to the National Indoor Team.


Note:

  1. Any athlete currently carded by FHC must cover all travel costs.
  2. Athletes outside of Ontario who make the team will have their August travel costs to and from Toronto covered by the program. These flights will be booked as part of the Qualifier travel bookings done by the manager.
