BRAMPTON, Ontario, August 7, 2013 – The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced funding for the 2013 Men’s Pan American Cup. The event is being held at the Cassie Campbell Community Centre in Brampton from August 9 to 17, 2013.
“Our Government is proud to support Field Hockey Canada in hosting the 2013 Men’s Pan American Cup,” said Minister of State Gosal. “Hosting this event provides our athletes with an opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best, while providing a welcome boost to the local economy.”
“On behalf of Field Hockey Canada and everyone involved with the 2013 Men’s Pan Am Cup, I thank Sport Canada for their support in hosting this World Cup Qualifier in Brampton,” said Jeff Sauve, CEO of Field Hockey Canada. “The field hockey community and the city are excited to be hosting the best hockey players in the Americas and welcome the legacy of a world-class pitch.”
A contribution of $94,000 to support the hosting of this event was provided to Field Hockey Canada through Sport Canada’s Hosting Program. The Government of Canada also committed $1.3 million in 2013–2014 to Field Hockey Canada through the Sport Support Program. Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program also provided more than $485,000 to support 42 Canadian male fieldhockey athletes with living and training expenses in 2012–2013.
