June 26, 2008
Field Hockey Canada’s 2008 senior men’s and women’s field hockey national championships are set to begin today at Hawkings Field on the University of Calgary campus. This year’s event is being hosted by Field Hockey Alberta and features four men’s teams and seven women’s teams of provincial representation.
The women’s event showcases the best national-level athletes from across Canada with teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island. Host Alberta will try and defend their 2007 title with three teams representing the north and south regions of the province.
While the men’s national team is currently preparing for this summer’s Olympic Games, their national championship will be contested by several high performance athletes within the national development and provincial systems. The event will feature Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and defending 2007 champion Ontario.
The medal round is scheduled to begin Monday morning in Calgary.
