Six Canadians among 2009 Pan Am Elite

Field Hockey Canada was well represented as the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) announced on Friday the names of the 2009 Pan American Elite Teams for men and women.

The men’s team is led by 2009 Pan American Cup Player of the Tournament Rob Short of Tsawwassen, British Columbia.  Joining Short from the 2009 Pan Am Cup champions are Ken Pereira , defenders Scott Tupper and Paul Wettlaufer, and Goalkeeper of the Tournament David Carter .

On the women’s side Canada is represented by Katie Baker of Argyle Shore, Prince Edward Island.

The PAHF Elite Teams are named every two years, with the first ones announced after the 2007 Pan American Games.

Hockey specialists involved or present at the 2009 Pan American Cups in Bermuda and Santiago were consulted for the selection of the Elite Teams roster. Additional input was sought from persons present at the FIH events in which PAHF teams participated (such as the Women’s Champions Trophy in Sydney and the Junior World Cups).

Six countries are represented on the men’s team: Argentina (3 players), Canada (5), Chile (3), Mexico (2), Trinidad & Tobago (1) and USA (4).  Six Countries are also represented on the women’s side: Argentina (6 Players), Canada (1), Chile (3), Mexico (1), Trinidad & Tobago (2) and USA (5).
