On Friday evening, six field hockey teams gathered at UBC’s Wright Field to compete in the 2013 FHC Centres of Excellence Girls 7 A-Side Invitational. There are currently three Centres of Excellence in operation for women, with sites at the University of Victoria, Tamanawis and Ambleside. In addition to teams representing each COE, three lower mainland clubs competed in the Invitational, including the Hawks Club, West Vancouver Field Hockey Club and the Delta Falcons.
Numerous fans, friends and family attended the event on Friday evening and enjoyed a series of competitive matches. The final match between Ambleside and Tamanawis was the most exciting. Tamanawis took an early lead, but Ambleside fought back with several goals. In the end, Tamanawis, coached by Bubli (Paul) Chohan, held onto their lead to win the COE Invitational with a 4 – 3 close victory.
