Une journée après avoir accordé trois buts à Calgary dans les 10 dernières minutes de jeu, les Gryphons de Guelph ont joué à peu près le même tour aux Pandas de l’Alberta, vendredi après-midi, pour l’emporter par 3-2 dans le sixième match de la ronde préliminaire du championnat féminin de hockey sur gazon de SIC-HGC qui se déroule à l’Université de Calgary.<\/p>\n

Grâce à cette victoire, Guelph se retrouve avec un dossier de 1-2 avec une rencontre à disputer en ronde préliminaire et conserve ses chances de remporter une médaille. Les Gryphons ont même encore un mince espoir d’atteindre la finale, mais elles auront besoin d’aide.<\/p>\n

De son côté, l’Alberta échappait un deuxième match en autant de sorties et doit absolument gagner un de ses deux duels samedi pour éviter l’élimination.<\/p>\n

« Quelle sensation!, s’est exclamée l’entraîneure-chef de Guelph, Michelle Turley. Les Pandas ont inscrit deux buts tôt dans la partie et ensuite nous avons dominé les 25 dernières minutes de la première demie sans parvenir à marquer.<\/p>\n

« À la fin cependant, nos joueuses étaient tellement déterminées que je savais qu’elles ne se contenteraient de rien de moins que de la victoire. »<\/p>\n

Après avoir concédé deux buts aux Pandas dans les huit premières minutes de la rencontre, Guelph a commencé à contrôler le jeu et à appliquer de plus en plus de pression. Les Gryphons ont tout de même dû attendre jusqu’à la 57e<\/sup> minute pour voir leurs efforts récompensés. <\/p>\n

Carly Flemming de l’Alberta a écopé d’un carton jaune, ce qui a procuré un corner à Brittany Seidler de Guelph. La joueuse par excellence de SUO originaire d’Oliver, Ont., a dirigé la balle tout juste à l’intérieur du poteau gauche pour battre la gardienne Tory Spencer et inscrire son quatrième but de la compétition, un sommet dans le tournoi.<\/p>\n

Cinq minutes plus tard, Seidler égalait la marque sur un jeu de toute beauté. Son puissant tir de l’intérieur du cercle a effleuré la barre horizontale avant de pénétrer dans le filet, ne laissant aucune chance à Spencer. Trois minutes après ce coup d’éclat, Candace Hawksworth complétait la spectaculaire remontée des Gryphons.<\/p>\n

Kinsco Santha avait ouvert le pointage pour l’Alberta à la sixième minute, puis Jenny Gluska avait doublé l’avance des Pandas seulement deux minutes plus tard. <\/p>\n

L’Alberta termine la ronde préliminaire samedi avec des rencontres face à Calgary (1-1) à 10h (heure des Rocheuses) et Toronto (1-1) à 16h. Pour sa part, Guelph affronte UBC (3-0) à 12h20 pour son dernier duel du premier tour.<\/p>\n
