Le 4 novembre, la communauté de hockey sur gazon se rassemblera à Coquitlam, Colombie-Britannique, pour la quatrième édition annuelle du Field Hockey Game for the Cure<\/em> afin de venir en aide à la Fondation du cancer de la Colombie-Britannique. L’événement, qui aura lieu au Cunnings Turf Field #7 au Town Center Park, mettra en vedette un match entre l’équipe féminine senior du Tri-City Eagles Field Hockey Club et une équipe d’étoile composée de joueurs d’âge scolaire locaux. D’ici le 4 novembre, tous les participants recueilleront des fonds pour la Fondation du cancer de la Colombie-Britannique, visant un objectif de 3500 $.<\/p>\n

Le Tri-Cities Game for the Cure avait été originalement inspiré de l’événement Game for the Cure de l’équipe nationale féminine de hockey sur gazon, qui avait eu lieu en 2009. Plus de 30 000 $ avaient été recueillis à l’édition inaugurale. À cette occasion, Tyla Flexman et Samantha Smith, deux athlètes de l’équipe nationale, avaient attisé les efforts de financement en se rasant la tête à l’issue du match.<\/p>\n

 « L’événement Game for the Cure me tient à cœur », partage Flexman, récemment retraitée de l’équipe nationale. « L’événement initial de 2009 avait été un succès incontesté grâce au soutien incroyable que nous avons obtenu. L’étendue du soutien que nous avions reçu de toute la collectivité me touche vraiment. »<\/p>\n

Peu après l’événement de 2009, Nicola McILwrick a mis sur pied le « Game for the Cure: Tri-Cities » afin d’étendre le soutien de la communauté de hockey sur gazon de la Colombie-Britannique à la recherche contre le cancer. L’an dernier, Samantha, sœur cadette de Nicola, a pris en charge la direction de l’événement. À la suite du succès obtenu en 2011, l’élève de 11e<\/sup> année de la Port Moody Secondary School a de grands espoirs pour l’édition courante.<\/p>\n

 « Cette année, nous espérons augmenter le nombre d’élèves qui participeront au match et d’encourager plus de gens de notre collectivité à y assister », note Samantha. « Ce que j’aime le plus avec Game for the Cure c’est d’encourager les gens à s’impliquer pour recueillir des fonds pour une bonne cause – tout particulièrement ces gens qui ne participent pas habituellement à ce genre d’événement de financement. C’est une excellente façon de sensibiliser notre collectivité locale à appuyer notre sport. »<\/p>\n

« C’est incroyable de constater que le Tri-Cities Game for the Cure poursuit ses bonnes œuvres en redonnant à la communauté et en sensibilisant la collectivité au hockey sur gazon », déclare Flexman. « Je suis honorée que Nicola et Sam sont parties d’une idée que j’avais eu et ont développé un événement communautaire annuel. » <\/p>\n

Vous retrouvez Tyla le long des lignes de touche à l’occasion du Game for the Cure du 4 novembre. Un groupe des joueuses de l’équipe nationale féminine se joindra à elle. L’équipe canadienne fera don d’un maillot autographié par les membres de l’équipe et de deux T-shirts autographiés.<\/p>\n

 « Je suis très heureuse d’assister à la partie encore cette année », a noté Flexman. « J’espère que les gens y assisteront en grand nombre! »<\/p>\n
