À la suite d’une défaite de 4-2 aux mains du Japon dimanche, le Canada termine en 6e<\/sup> place du Champions Challenge I 2012 de la FIH à Quilmes, en Argentine.<\/p>\n

« Pour nous, il s’agissait d’une conclusion très décevante au tournoi », a avoué l’entraîneur-chef Anthony Farry. « Aujourd’hui, nous avons démontré notre inexpérience lors de moments critiques. Je crois que nous devons examiner le jeu du Japon… ils ont vraiment bien joué aujourd’hui. Toutefois, nous avons gagné beaucoup d’expérience au cours du tournoi, et ça, c’est une bonne chose. »<\/p>\n

« La première demie n’a pas été trop solide mais malgré ça, nous étions encore dans le coup et nous avons cru que quelques ajustements à la mi-temps nous permettraient de regagner le contrôle », a partagé Scott Tupper, capitaine de l’équipe. « Malheureusement, nous avons eu de la difficulté dans les dix premières minutes de la seconde demie… le pointage et les circonstances ont changé notre plan de match. Pour ce qui est du tournoi en général, nous aurions évidemment aimé remporté plus de matchs, mais je crois que nous nous sommes améliorés par rapport à notre dernière participation. »<\/p>\n

Rapport du match de la FIH<\/strong><\/p>\n

C’est le Japon qui est sorti avec le plus de dynamisme et qui s’est emparé de l’avance lorsque Yuta Fukushiro a bouclé un tir en cours de jeu avec à peine trois minutes d’écoulées dans le match. Toutefois, le Canada a égalisé la marque à la 12e<\/sup> minute lorsque Matthew Bissett a devancé son défenseur pour dévier une superbe passe de Scott Tupper à proximité du but. Le Japon a rétabli son avance trois minutes plus tard lorsque leur capitaine, Kei Kawakami a marqué un délicieux but après quoi, le gardien canadien David Carter a réussi un bel arrêt avec le gant pour refuser la haute balle poussée en coin de pénalité de Katsuyoshi Nagasawa. <\/p>\n

L’équipe d’Asie a marqué deux fois en début de seconde moitié pour mettre leur match hors de la portée des Canadiens : Kazuhiro Tsubouchi et Toshihiro Tachibana étant les marqueurs du Japon. Tsubouchi a marqué à proximité du but à la 39e<\/sup> minute avant que Tachibana établisse la marque à 4-1 avec une belle balle poussée en cours de jeu. Le Canada – handicapé par les cartes jaunes décernées à Keegan Pereira and Gabriel Ho-Garcia – a marqué à 20 minutes de la fin lorsque Mark Pearson a exercé ses prouesses en battant son défenseur et en décochant un tir percutant au coin inférieur du but japonais. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
