L’équipe canadienne féminine de hockey sur gazon a accédé aux demi-finales des Jeux panaméricains lundi soir après avoir battu l’Uruguay 2 à 0 en quarts de finale au Pan Am Fields in Toronto.<\/p>\n

La victoire propulse les Canadiennes dans un duel contre ses rivales Américaines, mercredi soir à 19 h 30 9 (HE) \/ 16 h 30 (HP).<\/p>\n

Abigail Raye et Karli Johansen ont inscrit les deux buts du Canada sur des coups de coin de penalty en deuxième demie pour conduire à la victoire sur l’Uruguay, une équipe que le Canada a récemment battu en ronde demi-finale de la Ligue mondiale à Valence en Espagne<\/a>. <\/p>\n

« C’est bon de conclure en force contre elles », a déclaré Johansen de North Vancouver qui disputait un 50e<\/sup> match international pour le Canada. « C’est la même marque finale que leur de notre dernier affrontement alors nous savions à qui nous avions à faire et qu’il n’y aurait pas de surprises. »<\/p>\n

Le but de Johansen ne devrait pas surprendre non plus alors que la joueuse de 23 ans inscrivait ainsi son quatrième but du tournoi, son deuxième sur coup de coin de penalty, à la 50e minute de jeu.<\/p>\n

« Nous avons profité de plusieurs coups de coin dans ce tournoi », ajoute Johansen. « C’est plus facile de ralentir le jeu. »<\/p>\n

Le match a démarré par une belle occasion pour l’Uruguay sur un coup de coin de penalty. La gardienne Kaitlyn Williams a réalisé un arrêt avec le gain pour maintenir le pointage à égalité. À partir de ce moment, les Canadiennes ont contrôlé la possession et ont joué la majorité du match en territoire uruguayen.<\/p>\n

Malgré cet avantage marqué, le pointage est demeuré vierge jusqu’à la mi-temps.<\/p>\n

Éventuellement, les Canadiennes ont inscrit leurs deux buts sur des coups de coin de penalty, une phase de jeu qui s’est avérée très réussie jusqu’à maintenant dans le tournoi.<\/p>\n

« Nous y avons investi beaucoup de temps », raconte l’entraîneur-chef du Canada Ian Rutledge. « Nous avons aussi investi des efforts sur nos deux tireurs (Johansen et Danielle Hennig) et elles produisent dans ce tournoi ».<\/p>\n

« C’est bon de compter sur deux menaces à l’attaque, car cela complique la tâche du premier défenseur qui doit choisir. Ce sont deux jeunes joueuses et elles se développent bien. »<\/p>\n

Le Canada tentera de maintenir sur cette tendance contre les États-Unis, deuxième favorite du tournoi et cinquième équipe au monde.<\/p>\n

La demi-finale de mercredi sera disputée à 19 h 30 HE. Le gagnant de cette rencontre affrontera en finale vendredi le gagnant de l’autre demi-finale qui oppose l’Argentine au Chili.<\/p>\n
