During the week of November 20-26, 2023, approximately 50 men attended a carding camp in greater Vancouver. The team is coming off a bronze medal in Santiago at the Pan American Games. They are preparing for the upcoming FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers in Oman. That tournament runs January 15-22.
Each year, the National Team coaching staff hosts an Identification and Carding Camp to identify and determine the members of the squad for that calendar year. This year, there is the added excitement and urgency as the Olympic Qualifiers are fast-approaching.

Field Hockey Canada receives carding money from the Canadian government to put towards athlete assistance. Head Coach Patrick Tshutshani and his staff are evaluating athletes during the carding camp week. They will look at physical testing scores, technical and tactical ability, body of work and experience as well as teamwork and team culture fit, when determining the allocation of cards.
The camp timing matches perfectly with a junior centralization period prior to the Junior World Cup. The Junior Men’s National Team departs for Kuala Lumpur on November 28. There, they will take on the best teams in the world at the Junior World Cup. Follow them here.
The complete team list for the 2023 National Team Carding Camp featured over 40 field players and eight goalkeepers. This number is up considerably, back to pre-COVID numbers and includes a strong young contingent, featuring the 20 Junior National Team athletes.
