Men’s Olympic Trust accepting applications

The Canadian Olympic Association and Field Hockey Canada are accepting applications for the Men’s Olympic Trust Fund until the end of January 2018.

Under the terms of the agreement executed in 1990 between the Canadian Olympic Association and the Canadian Field Hockey Association, funds from the Canadian Field Hockey Olympic Endowment Fund shall be used to enhance the high performance of men and boys playing field hockey in and for Canada by providing the funds for coaching, training, training facilities or equipment, and, not limited to the foregoing, to encourage the development of field hockey skills in general of men and boys playing in Canada by providing scholarships and other funding.

Guidelines

A Board of Trustees oversees the fund. There are three trustees. The Board encourages applications from field hockey clubs, as well as regional, provincial, and national organizations supporting men’s and boy’s field hockey.

The model for the fund is to distribute annually some or all of the interest income generated from investments of the principal endowment. The total distribution to grant applicants varies from year to year. Three thousand dollars was distributed for the year ending March 31, 2016.

While not stipulated, the Trustees encourage applications from organizations across the field hockey community, so as to be able to achieve a broad distribution of funds within the sport. Individual grant applications are generally, but not unequivocally capped at $5,000.

Applications must be received on or before January 31, 2018. The Trustees will review applications and award grants on or before March 31, 2018. All applicants will be informed of the results. Funds are distributed in April.
