Nominate your coach for a FHC Coaching Award

Each Fall, the Coaching Association of Canada celebrates National Coaches Week. This is a time to recognize the positive impact coaches have on athletes and their communities across Canada. Each year Thousands of people across Canada, regardless of sport, take part in National Coaches week to say #ThanksCoach for the time, effort and generosity coaches dedicate to their sport and their athletes.

This year’s Coaches Week Event will be held From September 19-27th, 2020.

Field Hockey Canada is excited to announce that in conjunction with National Coaches Week, we will be accepting nominations for the first annual FHC Coaching Awards. The 2020 Award categories are Grassroots Coach and Development Coach. There will be an award for female and male coach in each category. Winners will be announced at the 2020 FHC AGM, and will be honoured on our website and social media channels throughout coaches week.

Award Criteria: Grassroots Coach

  • Requirements to be considered, at a minimum the nominated coach is/has:
    • A member of their respective PSO and an FHC Registered Participant (if coach is retired or deceased this requirement is waived)
    • Completed a minimum of 3 NCCP courses
    • Coached at the grass roots level for 10 years
  • The panel will consider the following when making their The coach has
    • Made an impact at the local level
    • Helped established a club, high school program, league, or skills clinics
    • Ensured hockey for all in their community
    • Went above and beyond to engage and retain hockey players
    • Engaged in hockey in other ways such as board member, official, administrator

Award Criteria: Development Coach

A Development Coach is a coach that has provided athletes with mentorship, skills and competitive experience to move from recreational level to competitive level. For example: club or high school athlete to provincial athlete, or, provincial athlete to next gen or national team athlete

  • Requirements to be considered, at a minimum the nominated coach is/has:
    • A member of their respective PSO and an FHC Registered Participant (if coach is retired or deceased this requirement is waived)
    • Completed a minimum of 6 NCCP courses
    • Coached at the development level for 8 years
  • The panel will consider the following when making their The coach has:
    • Made an impact at the lives of the athletes they have coached and has gone above and beyond to help athletes become their best selves
    • Been the primary coach involved with supporting an athlete’s (or many athlete’s) development from recreational to competitive
    • Engaged in lifelong learning through education and
    • Engaged in hockey in other ways such as board member, official, administrator
