Women’s program takes on USA indoor hockey in New Jersey
Canada U18 (NextGen)
Game 1 – vs USA 2 (1-9 L)
Game 2 – vs USA 1 (3-7 L)
Game 3 – vs USA 2 (1-5 L)
Canada’s U18 team made many positive strides over the weekend. Building with each match, the group grew closer & gained some valuable experience against some very talented competition. Composed of a combination of athletes from Ontario & Alberta, the group only met on the Friday before the series. Despite this, they managed to create some positive chemistry and play some good indoor hockey in spells in each match.
The goal the weekend for us was to give our athletes the experience of playing hockey at a higher level. The USA have done a great job developing and playing hockey which helps raise the level. It was great to see our athletes compete in each match, and create their opportunities. The group leaves this weekend with lots of learnings and takeaways. We look forward to seeing what they will accomplish in their next phase & in next year’s series.
Canada Women’s
Game 1 – vs USA 1 (0-3 L) Test Match 1
Game 2 – vs USA 2 (4-3 W)
Game 3 – vs USA 1 (5-3 W) Test Match 2
The 2025/26 indoor season marked the start of a new four year cycle for our senior women’s team; and with that the opportunity for largely new core group of athletes to represent Canada on the indoor stage. Just like the U18 group, the CAN-AM series represented a great opportunity for the senior group to be tested against a very strong & talented opponent in the USA. The pace & level grew with each match, resulting in intense quality hockey played all weekend.
The team, compromised of athletes largely from Ontario (with two from Alberta) had many athletes who recently completed their NextGen stints, met as a group for the first time on the Friday before the series. Despite this they still matched extremely well with their young American opponents, which lead to three tightly contested matches.
Our goal was to give this new group the opportunity to compete in a higher pressure environment and the two test matches with the USA 1 team really helped accomplish this. We had 11 athletes earn their first cap, which is a such a great honour for any Canadian athlete. The group walks away from the weekend with 2 wins, but more importantly, the experience gained and lots of learnings and lessons that we hope to implement as we continue to develop this group. We’re looking forward to getting started again in the fall for the 2026/27 season.
