Field Hockey Canada (FHC) is proud to announce funding to the sum of $800,000 over two years specifically directed towards Community Sport for All Initiative. CSAI funding is directed at removing barriers and increasing sport participation rates for under-represented groups. Its key objective is to support community sport initiatives for under-represented groups, in particular, Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQI+, low-income people, persons with a disability, newcomers and seniors to increase participation and retention in sport.
Over the past three years, FHC has been proud to have received this support from the government. It’s enabled Field Hockey Canada to support the development and growth of the sport through community level projects across Canada. Removing barriers from coast to coast, field hockey is without doubt more inclusive and accessible for under-represented groups because of the incredible work to date. With this further boost, FHC can continue to work with communities and build on this success. By 2026, FHC will have directed over $1M into community projects from coast to coast to coast.
Over the coming year, FHC will open a series of windows in which community projects are encouraged to apply for funding. The first application window will open later this week, with a total of $350,000 to be disbursed into local communities. FHC will be able to support projects across Canada specifically targeted for support through three key initiatives: Stick Together, Hockey ID and Walking Hockey.
Field Hockey Canada CEO Susan Ahrens ” We are grateful to the Government of Canada for their continued support to FHC’s efforts to grow and develop safe, barrier free and accessible pathways into our sport. Through this support, FHC has been able to work directly with communities to witness first-hand how many of the community projects deliver programs that go beyond sport simply sport to truly change lives. It’s a privilege to be able to support this type of work and I’d like to thank the hundreds of volunteer community organizers who make this happen.
Through Government of Canada support for CSAI and our amazing extended and growing communities across Canada we continue to make the impossible, possible and open our fields and gym halls and spaces to include more people from all communities into our wonderful sport.”
Stay tuned this week for application forms and deadlines.
