For Gurtej Dhaliwal, field hockey has been a family affair for as long as he can remember. He began playing the game as a child in his basement with his brother Gurdeep and his father Mohan.

He then moved to the outdoor fields and ended up playing with the Gloucester Tiers Field Hockey club in Ottawa, Ontario. He joined the Canadian Junior Men’s National Program in July 2014.
