The Women’s Training Squad falls to Argentina in practice match #1 ahead of the upcoming U21 series. The match started with Canada in white and Argentina in Purple at the newly resurfaced Wright Field at the University of British Columbia
Argentina applied some early pressure, while the stingy Canadian defence absorbed and defended well with a few key saves by Canadian goalkeeper Kaitlyn Williams. Canada worked for an early PC, but mistrapped at the top and play resumed.
Argentina began to apply some pressure – scoring in minute 17, but Canada roared back converting on a well worked PC, goal by Stephanie Gardiner.
Play resumes with Canada defending well before Argentina slips a second goal in on a deceptive drag flick just before halftime.
The second half began with Argentina scoring their third goal on a speedy attack down the right side, making it 3-1 for the visitors. Play resumes with another clever attack from Argentina swept away by a diving save from Williams.
Canada starts building solid attack around great play from Kate Gillis, but Argentina absorbs and finds the goal for the fourth time on a backhand from the top of the D. Canada responded well with some stingy defence and strong attack sequences but coult not convert. Argentina managed to score two more before the final buzzer.
Argentina takes the first warm-up match 6-1. Join us again for tomorries game at 1:30pm at Wright, then again on Friday evening, 6:30pm at Rutledge Field (West Vancouver).
