Field Hockey Canada > Game #3 - CANADA U21 vs. ARGENTINA U21: 0-4 (0-2)

Windy and rainy day kicked things off at Wright Field for game #3 between these two Pan Am rivals. The newly released Junior World Cup draw shows that these two teams are in the same pool and will meet in July in Mönchengladbach, Germany – adding some extra motivation no doubt!

The match began with Canada applying some early pressure on well worked attacks and an early flurry of chances. Canada was rewarded by great skill from Stephanie Norlander who earned an early PC.

The young Argentine squad battled back strong with rain pouring down, earning and converting on a nicely worked PC. 1-0 Argentina.

Argentina continues applying pressure with some creative hockey — Canada defends well but gives up a second PC. The PC is saved and play continues as the teams trade attacks between the 25s.

Canada continues to defend while Argentina launches a dangerous counter attack resulting in another PC. The low flick beats the Canadian keeper to the left side making it 2-0 Argentina.

Argentina continues to attack, picking their chances through smart counter attacks and possession.

Rain continues to pour as Canada works to level the score on some nice play up the right side from Natalie Sourisseau.

Canada starts generating more offence through the likes of Karli Johansen and Sara McManus

as the halftime whistle blows. Halftime score: 2-0 for Argentina.

The second half starts with Argentina applying some early pressure — moving the ball well from side to side. Some miscommunication in Canada backfield leads to a near goal.

Argentina continues on the attack in waves, with Canada absorbing the pressure. The teams exchange chances as Hannah Haughn orchestrates a smart Canadian attack which sailed over the crossbar.

Argentina now on the attack, works up the left side and converts a cross. Score now 3-0 for ARG.

ARG continues to launch dangerous counter attacks. A great individual effort rings the final shot off the crossbar. Two more long runs are well defended by the Canadians before conceding a PC.

This one is converted from a double battery on another low-flick to Canadian keeper, Lauren Logush’s stick side, off the backboard. 4-0 for Argentina.

Canadian now determined, works some slick attack through Sourisseau, who cleverly beat four defenders, but the shot misses wide.

Canada now defending as Argentina mixes in some possession with their typical ‘run and gun’ style.

Sourisseau picks up a Green Card and two minutes in the sin-bin for a challenge. The wet, windy conditions continue as time winds down.
