Teams battle for playoff positions heading into final day of pool play

July 1, 2010

The second day of the 2010 FHC National Championships saw the BC Mainland team take a strong lead in Pool A in the women’s tournament while Ontario and BC Island continue to battle for top spot in Pool B.  In the men’s tournament Ontario victories over Alberta and the United States leaves them in first place.

Four games took place in the men’s tournament including a double header for the United States as they suffered losses to both British Columbia in the morning followed by Ontario in the evening.  BC still has two games to play on the final day of round robin competition on Friday.  They currently sit three points behind first place Ontario while BC U18 and Alberta each have one point behind the Americans’ three.

The women’s tournament saw three games occur including the first match for Team BC U18 Blue.  A draw between BC Island and Ontario leave them tied atop Pool B with four points.  BC U18 White is only one point behind after defeating Prince Edward Island with no time left on the clock.

BC Mainland edged BC U18 Blue in the final match of the day to take a commanding lead of Pool A with six points.

Friday’s matches will determine playoff seeding including which men’s team receives the bye into the tournament final on Sunday.
