Maddie grew up surrounded by field hockey and started playing in her Junior League when she was 4. She was introduced to the sport by her mom, Deb Whitten, a goalkeeper for the Canadian National Team who competed in the 1992 Olympics. Some of Maddie’s earliest memories are of being at the pitch, ranging from playing and practicing with friends to watching and cheering on the UVic Vikes.
A multi-sport athlete, Maddie’s love for field hockey has remained unmatched. Maddie has played at multiple levels, from playing for her club and school teams to representing BC and Canada. She won a provincial championship with her high school team, Oak Bay, in 2021 and came second in U18 National Championships in 2022 with her BC Blue team. Her first time playing for Canada was in 2022, when she played for the U18 National Team against the USA in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
