Shanlee Johnston a disputé son premier match international pour le Canada en 2012 dans une série de rencontres amicales contre les États-Unis. Après avoir participé à la première ronde de la Ligue mondiale de la FIH en 2012, elle a aidé le Canada à remporter une médaille de bronze à la Coupe panaméricaine en 2013.

Johnston a raté les Jeux du Commonwealth de 2014 en raison d’une blessure, mais elle est revenue au sein du groupe en 2015, se taillant une place pour les Jeux panaméricains, remportant la médaille de bronze à Toronto, soit la première équipe canadienne à monter sur le podium à ces Jeux depuis l’édition de 1999 à Winnipeg.

Johnston a aidé les Thunderbirds de l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique à remporter des titres nationaux de SIC en 2011, 2012 et 2013. Son frère Gordon est membre de l’Équipe nationale masculine du Canada.

Shanlee Johnston made her first international appearance for Canada in a 2012 series against the United States. After suiting up for the first round of the FIH World League in 2012, she helped Canada win bronze at the 2013 Pan American Cup.

Johnston missed out on competing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games due to injury, but worked her way back into the fold in 2015, making the Pan Am Games team, which eventually won bronze in Toronto, becoming the first Canadian women’s team to medal at the event since 1991. Since 2015, Johnston has been a key cog in the defensive line for Team Canada. She was a member of the 2019 Pan American Silver-winning team and the 2022 Pan American Cup team that claimed bronze and a World Cup bid.

Johnston helped the UBC Thunderbirds win three straight CIS national titles in 2011, 2012, and 2013. She has a brother, Gordon, who is a part of the Canadian Men’s National Team.
