Field Hockey Canada is hosting a Women’s National Team identification and carding camp on March 26-29, 2026. The event will take place in the Metro Vancouver area and will be centred around identifying the Women’s National Team cohort for the 2026-27 training and competition cycle.
The Women’s National Team and Field Hockey Canada are welcoming applications from all eligible players. Please fill out the Expression of Interest form below. Following the expression of interest, the High-Performance staff will reach out to the invited group for camp.
The Women’s National Team went on a new year trip to South Africa at the start of January, where they participated in a training tour and test series against the South African National Team. The tour primarily took place at North-West University in Potchefstroom with test matches taking place in Pretoria.
The team brought a 24-athlete squad to reward development athletes that have been working in the junior, USPORTS and indoor environment, into the senior environment and use the event as an evaluation tool towards FIH World Cup Qualifying selection. This was step one towards developing a dedicated cohort for this season. Step two will be the World Cup Qualifiers on March 1-8, 2026, in Santiago.
Team Canada will be fresh back from the World Cup Qualifiers in Chile, when this carding camp takes place. Using the World Cup qualifiers as a launching point for competition, the team gathers in Vancouver this week for a carding camp. The purpose of carding camp is to identify and evaluate the top cohort of athletes for the Canadian Government to provide support for these athletes. This cohort of athletes will also make up the bulk of the team, as the Canadian Wolf Pack moves towards the World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games.

The Government of Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program is one of the funding streams Field Hockey Canada, as a national sport organization, can access to support its athletes. The AAP is a sport funding program that contributes to the pursuit of excellence with direct support to athletes. AAP support seeks to relieve some of the financial pressures associated with preparing for and participating in international sport and assists high-performance Canadian athletes to combine their sport and academic or working careers while training intensively in pursuit of world-class performances. Athletes identified by Field Hockey Canada and nominated for AAP support (also known as ‘carding’) receive funding directly from Sports Canada.
As a reminder, athletes may be part of the senior squad (WNT) but not be nominated for AAP support. There are other benefits that all identified athletes within our WNT receive including eligibility for additional support to services including but not limited to, tuition support within Canada, gym access and Game Plan education from system partners such as the sports institute network (CSI) and the Olympic Committee (COC).
