The 2015 U16 Field Hockey Canada Nationals kicked off action Monday in Brampton, Ontario. The opening day’s schedule featured seven matches.
The U16 Girls got the ball rolling early on Monday morning with BC White taking on Ontario White. Ontario White were able to pull off a victory against BC White winning 2 – 1. Ontario White got off to an early two goal lead within the first 10 minutes with both Madison Mitchell and Jenna Berger scoring.
Starting off the day on the boy’s side, Ontario GTA faced off against Quebec. Ontario GTA was able to shut out Quebec by a score of 4 – 0. Strong work on the Penalty Corner proved to be the difference for Ontario GTA, scoring 3 of their 4 goals of them. Jagpreet Singh was a match stand out scoring both of his 2 goals off the Penalty Corner.
Today’s boys featured match of the day had BC Blue facing off against Ontario East. BC Blue proved to be the victors as they cruised their way to a big 5 – 1 win over Ontario East. A Hat Trick performance by forward Imorz Saran and great goal keeping by Sahib Tatla were keys to BC Blue’s victory.
Our girl’s featured match of the day had BC Blue taking on Alberta. BC Blue played a solid 60 minutes and was able to defeat Alberta by a score of 3-1. A late strike by Alberta’s Jenna Stetz was not enough to fuel a comeback from her side.
The following match had girls Ontario Red going up against BC White. Ontario Red was able to put up 6 on the board compared to 0 for BC White. It was a great all round team performance for Ontario Red as each goal was scored by a different player.
Back on the boys side, Quebec was back in action in the day’s sixth match as they took on BC White. The game resulted in a very close 2 – 2 draw. Quebec’s Will Peterman was able to tie the match up in the 60th minute to ensure his team picking up one point.
In the day’s fourth and final match, Ontario GTA looked to keep the ball rolling against Alberta. A goal by Randeep Singh in the 24th minute of the match proved to be the game winning as Ontario GTA win a close game, 1-0 is the final.
