Day two of the 2015 U16 Field Hockey Canada Nationals resumed action Wednesday morning in Brampton, Ontario. Wednesday’s festivities featured eight matches on the schedule.
Like yesterday, the U16 girls started of Wednesday’s action with Ontario White facing off against Alberta. After 60 minutes, neither side was able to find the score sheet resulting in a 0-0 draw. Aside from the empty goal column, it was also a very clean game as no cards were handed out.
The following match featured both U16 girls’ BC teams facing off against each other. BC Blue came out victorious against their provincial rivals, BC White, winning by a score of 3-0. Game stand out Kelsie Stephenson found the score sheet twice, scoring goals in both the 16th and 47th minute.
The U16 boys got their day started with another Battle of BC. Like the match before, BC Blue were able to defeat BC White with a big 6-1 victory. It was a great team performance by BC Blue as they had six different players scoring goals.
In the match following, it was our U16 boys featured match of the day having Alberta play against Quebec. The match was close to the very last minute. However, Alberta emerged as the victors winning 2-1. A strong game by goal keeper Jay Dhaliwal proved to be the difference.
The match was followed by our U16 girls feature match of the day having Ontario Red taking on Alberta. After a hard fought 60 minutes by both sides, Ontario Red was far too dominant for Alberta as they cruised to a 5-0 victory. A strong 4 goal half by Ontario Red lead them to a big win.
More U16 girl’s action followed as BC Blue took on Ontario White. BC Blue was able to improve their record to 3-0 as they were able to defeat Ontario White by a score of 2-0. BC Blue’s Jenna Berard scored her tournament leading 3rd goal (tied with one other) in the 60th minute of the match.
The day was closed out by two U16 boy’s matches. The first of the remaining two featured a Battle of Ontario. Ontario GTA came out of the game beating Ontario East by a score of 4-2. After going down 1-2 to Ontario East, Ontario GTA was able to rally back scoring three unanswered goals. Match stand out Ganga Singh, was able to score two crucial goals to ensure a victory for his team.
The eighth and final match of the day had BC Blue playing Alberta closing out the night. BC Blue was able to stay undefeated in the tournament as they won 3-1 over Alberta. Jason Dhaliwal provided all the offence BC Blue needed as he scored all three goals for his side. He now leads the tournament with four goals to his name.
