2015 U16 Championships – Day 3 Recap

Day three of the U16 Field Hockey Canada Nationals didn’t fail to provide exciting action throughout Thursday in Brampton, Ontario. Wednesday was filled with six U16 boys and girls matches throughout the day.

Thursday’s action was kicked off with our U16 Girls featured match of the day having Ontario Red play BC Blue. Ontario Red was able to edge BC Blue in a very close match with the final score being 3-1. Ontario Red’s Jaslan Stirling was a match stand out scoring two key goals in both the 15th and 45th minute. She currently leads the tournament with seven goals to her name.

The U16 Girls kept things rolling as Alberta faced off against BC White in the following match. At the end of 60 minutes, it was BC White who pulled through as the victors winning 2-1. Two quick goals scored in the latter half of the first 30 minutes by Nina Watson and Leah Fourie of BC White proved to be the difference.

Following, BC White and Alberta got the action started on the U16 boy’s side. Alberta was able to keep BC White off the score sheet, winning by a score of 3-0. Alberta’s Gurkirat Sran found the back of the net twice in both the 24th and 55th minute to help lead his team to the victory.

Next up on the U16 Boy’s featured match of the day which had BC Blue playing against Ontario GTA. After a hard fought 60 minutes by both side, it was BC Blue who were able to pick up the 3 points with the final score being 2-1. An all-around great performance from goal keeper Sahib Tatla and goals from Gurvansh Mann and Mike Van proved to be the deciding factor in the match.

The following was the final U16 girl’s match of the day, featuring Ontario White and Ontario Red. This Battle of Ontario was won by Ontario Red as they cruised themselves to a 4-0 win. After a scoreless first half, Jordyn Faiczak was able to break the deadlock in the 38th minute and was able to spark the offence for her side.

The U16 Boys closed out the night with a match that had Ontario East playing Quebec. Quebec was able to defeat Ontario East after winning by a score of 3-1. Quebec’s Flynn McCulloch was able to score in the 51st minute to seal the win for his team.
