Canadian Women’s National Team Defeated by Chile at 4 Nation Classic Field Hockey Tournament

Vancouver, July 23 – Team Canada Women suffered a 0 – 5 loss to Chile at the 4 Nation Classic today.  Chile, ranked 16th in the world, proved a tough opponent against Canada, currently ranked 20th.

“We have not seen a score like that against Chile in a long time,” said Stephanie Jameson (Vancouver).  “The team was ready for this game, we were excited to play, but things didn’t go well early on and spiraled from there.  I know we are really motivated to get back to work and make sure this doesn’t happen the next time we meet them, which could be at the Pan Ams in October.”

Jameson, who recently achieved her 150th international cap representing Canada, remains positive.  “Moving forward, we have an important game against Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow.   We have to come back, compete hard, and finish this tournament with a solid win. We have a three game test series against Japan next week, which will be important preparation for the Pan Ams. We have to bury this loss, keep our heads high and get ready for the next few games.”

Danielle Hennig (Kelowna, BC), added, “It was frustrating because we just didn’t really get our stuff together.  We’ve got another game tomorrow, so we’re ready to get refreshed, come out hard and show them how we can play.  We’ve got a lot more to give.”
