Brienne Stairs Captures UofG’s W.F. Mitchell Sportswoman Award

Two-time CIS Player of the Year and native of Kitchener, ON, Brienne Stairs was awarded Sportswoman of the Year at the University of Guelph.

The award is presented to a female athlete who has demonstrated outstanding talent and ability in her sport, combined with exceptional leadership and involvement in athletics at the University of Guelph. The W. F. Mitchell Award is a ring engraved with the University of Guelph Gryphon logo.

Brienne leads by her worth ethic on the field which is second to none.  This speedy forward is a fourth year member of the field hockey team and is a three-time CIS All-Canadian and three-time OUA first team all-star.  She was named the OUA and CIS Player of the Year for the last two seasons and was the top scorer in the country for three of her four years.  This season she scored 32 goals in 14 league games. Thanks to her 27 assists she was in on 69 percent of Guelph’s conference leading 85 goals.

Brienne was recently carded with the Senior Women’s national squad and will relocate to BC in May.
