National Men’s Team comes up short in the first match of their European Tour

Team Canada Men played Team Belgium on August 5, 2011 in Brussels.  The score was 0 – 3 at half time.  Canada was unable to score, leaving the match 0 – 7.

“We under performed in many areas today,” says head Coach Robin D’Abreo.  “We were not able to keep pace with a team that moved, and executed more quickly and effectively than we did.  However, I am optimistic we will come out stronger tomorrow.”

Belgium set the tone for the game with a goal in the 34th second.  By the 8th minute, Belgium obtained its first short corner and proceeded to score.

With Belgium dictating the majority of the play, they obtained the second and last corner of the half. They scored their third goal on a good rising drag flick.

The second half started just like the first with Belgium earning a short corner in the 44th minute and Antoni Kindler making an excellent blocker save.  Not letting up, Belgium earned two short corners within five minutes, scoring on each – bringing the score to 5 -0.

In the 61st minute Canada obtained its only short corner of the game, but the Belgium keeper was able to slow the ball down while the post defender for Belgium was able to clear the ball from just in front of the goal line.

In the 67th minute Belgium had a short corner, but this time Kindler was able to make a solid save. A minute later Kindler saved yet another short corner.

Not letting up, Belgium got its last short corner of the game minute 69.  They made no mistake, scoring their 7th and final goal of the game. Canada was not able to respond at any point in the game, leaving the final score 7-0 for Belgium.
