Field Hockey Canada > Canada Wraps U21 Series With 1-2 Loss to Argentina

The game began with Argentina applying some early pressure. They were soon rewarded, taking a 1-0 lead on a swift attack.

Canada rallied at the restart but Argentina absorbed and worked some possession. Canadian backstop Bea Francisco was tested a few more times early. But the resilient Canadians launched some speedy offense of their own.

They were rewarded as Ashley Kristen converted a clinical tip on a superb pass from Stephanie Norlander. The timely goal tied things up 1-1.

At the restart Canada now building momentum and playing inspiring hockey on home soil.

But Argentina continues to work dangerous counter attacks up both side of the field. The Argies score on a slick give and go to take the lead 2-1.

The teams continue trading chances with some fantastic offense being displayed at both ends. Canada controls some midfield possession and move the ball around swiftly but can’t manage to capitalize before half. Halftime score is 2-1 for the visitors.

Early pressure from the Canadians in the second half – well absorbed by Argentina. This game has been defensive battle.

Argentina takes two quick consecutive green cards and Canada goes on the attack looking to capitalize.

Canada then takes a couple of cards of their own. Play continues to ebb and flow with tight defense at both ends.

Argentina on yet another fast counter attack earns a PC which is promptly saved by a sprawling Bea Francisco. What a magnificent save by the young keeper!

With 12 minutes remaining, Canadian coaching staff choosing to make some personnel adjustments – moving players up and clearly going for the equalizer at all costs.

The inspiring display of grit from the young Canadian side results in a PC. The PC is saved and Canada continues looking for the back of the net.

Argentina works their fast, run and gun style with some great attacks of their own as the teams trade chances in the final minutes. Bea, equal to the test, coming up with more crucial saves.

Canada continues on the attack, but time runs as Argentina holds on for the 2-1 win.

The Canadian team will regroup quickly before gearing up for Senior Nationals and continuing preparations for the Junior World Cup  July 22 – 4 August in Germany.
