The  Women’s National Team played Barbados on Wednesday in day three of the 2012 FIH World League Round 1 in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.  Having scored 33 goals and posting three shutouts, Canada is currently tied for first in the tournament with Uruguay who have scored 15 goals.  The teams are followed by Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, Guyana and Barbados in the round robin tournament.

“We stuck with our game plan and were pleased with the execution of the penalty corners,” says Head Coach Kimo Linders. “Overall we continued to play a structured game even as Barbados increased their offensive pressure in the second half and ended the game with a strong 11 to 0 result.”

Team Canada’s goals were scored by:  Sara McManus (2’, 50’), Brienne Stairs (8’), Marian Dickinson (13’, 26’), Stephanie Gardiner (14’), Caashia Karringten (19’, 31’), Jocelyn Mitchell (38’), Poonam Sandhu (55’) and Kate Gillis (62’).

The WNT have set their goals for the remaining games and are well prepped to meet opponents Trinidad &Tobago on November 15 at Tacarigua Sports Complex.   Team Canada is excited to be cheered on by family members and a large group of local supporters.
