Canada wins World League Round 1 in T&T!

The  Canadian Women’s National Team defeated Uruguay 1 – 0 on Saturday to win the 2012 FIH World League Round 1 in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago!  Canada and Uruguay advance as the top two qualifiers to the FIH World League Round 2 in Brazil in 2013.

“Today, was a great display of the girls’ skills and understanding of the game,” says Head Coach Kimo Linders. “Relentless offense, strong transitions by our midfielders, solid support in the defense and an outstanding performance by our goalkeeper Kaitlyn Williams led us to this victory.”

The lone goal of the match was scored by Kate Gillis (6′) in the first half. The team finished the tournament with 38 goals for and shutouts in all 5 matches.


In addition to winning the tournament, Team Canada also accumulated a number of significant awards at the ceremony.  Hannah Haughn was named tournament MVP, Kaitlyn Williams was voted Best Goalkeeper and Brienne Stairs and Caashia Karringten tied for top goal scorers in the tournament.
