Field Hockey Canada is committed to supporting the Indoor Hockey program to ensure our teams consistently qualify for the Indoor Pan American Cup and the Indoor World Cup. The Indoor Program has not been permanent or consistent within FHC programming for many years: this step will therefore add significant depth to our sport, with particular relevance to most of our provinces, where only the indoor aspect of field hockey is available during our winters.
The program will focus on the development of athletes capable of successfully meeting the demands of international level competition. With this aim, Field Hockey Canada is pleased to announce the following leadership positions:
CANADIAN INDOOR HOCKEY COACHING STAFF
Louis Mendonca will take the lead of the overall National Indoor program and serve as the head coach of the Men’s Indoor program. Louis is an accomplished international coach and the ideal choice for overall lead and head coach of the men’s program. Louis coached Canada to a Pan American Gold medal in 2007 and an Olympic Games in field hockey in 2008. He coached the Canadian Men’s National Team to a sixth place in the Indoor World Cup.
John DeSouza will serve as the head coach of the Women’s National Indoor program. John has previously served as a coaching staff member for Field Hockey Canada at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, and Commonwealth Games. He was the head coach of the Men’s National Team during the Indoor World Cup in 2007.
John will report directly to Louis Mendonca the lead of the National Indoor Program
A call for assistant coaches for both programs will be posted shortly.
FIRST PHASE OF THE PROGRAM WILL BE A WOMEN’S INDOOR SELECTION CAMP
SET TO TAKE PLACE JULY 12-14, 2013 IN TORONTO
Athletes must meet the following requirements and any other set out by a national coach, in order to attend the camp, be selected, and train with the National Squad.
