The pressure is on. As the Canadian Men’s Junior National Team competes in this week’s 3 Nations Tournament in Vancouver, each athlete will be giving it all they’ve got in hopes of being selected to compete for Canada at the 2012 Junior Pan American Championships in September. The Championship in Guadalajara also serves as a qualifier for the 2013 Junior World Cup. Click here to view the Team Canada roster.
“The USA and Chile will be some of our main competitors in Guadalajara,” says Head Coach Mathias Ahrens. “It will be interesting to see where they are in their preparations at this point. We will be doing everything we can to maintain our competitive edge.”
The Junior Men’s performance on Sunday proved they are on track to do just that with an impressive 9 -2 victory over Team USA. Tonight we will see if Canada can continue their winning streak as they face Chile at 6:30pm in Vancouver at Eric Hamber Field. In March, this squad defeated Chile in 7 straight matches. Can they do it again? Visit www.fieldhockey.ca/3NATIONS for updates from Vancouver.
Following this tournament, Ahrens will select 18 athletes to compete at the Junior Pan American Championships. The roster will be announced on Friday, July 27th.
